A spokesperson from the Salin Township People’s Defense Force has confirmed that eight police officers were killed and two were captured when resistance forces attacked and seized the Tanaing police station in Magway Region’s Salin Township. The battle, which began at 4:50 AM on July 30, lasted over three hours and resulted in the complete capture of the police station. During the operation, two family members of police personnel were also taken into custody.
During the clash, the police station was estimated to have approximately thirty personnel, with some officers fleeing to the Tanaing electrical substation. After capturing the police station, the People’s Defense Forces burned down the facility. At 8:23 AM, the military council responded with three airstrikes using fighter jets. Additionally, heavy artillery fire was reported from the Tanaing electrical substation toward the Tanaing area. The resistance forces managed to seize significant military equipment from the junta forces, including five G3 rifles, one MA-13 rifle, and numerous rounds of ammunition. Two additional G3 rifles, though damaged by fire, were also recovered.
The operation was carried out by members of the Salin Township People’s Defense Force (Salin PDF). During the attack, one resistance fighter sustained a hand injury, while the remaining forces were able to withdraw safely without casualties. The successful operation demonstrates the growing capabilities of local resistance forces in their fight against the military regime. The capture of the police station represents a significant tactical victory for the resistance movement in the Magway Region, though it prompted immediate military retaliation through airstrikes, highlighting the ongoing intensity of the conflict in the area.
