According to military sources in Naypyidaw, the military council plans to convene a meeting of the National Defense and Security Council at the end of July, where they will announce their intention to hold elections within six months rather than extending their current term. The meeting will include multiple announcements and official declarations regarding the election process.
Sources indicate that instead of extending their term for another six months, the military council will proceed with elections within the next six months. The Commander-in-Chief of the Defense Services will reportedly transfer state power back to an interim president and the National Defense and Security Council. While there will be some changes in nomenclature, the sources state that current ministers, chief ministers of states and regions, and regional commanders will retain their positions without any changes.
The National Defense and Security Council will announce the revocation of the transfer of state power to Military Chief Min Aung Hlaing under Article 426 of the 2008 Constitution, and elections will be held within six months as per Article 249. Military leader Min Aung Hlaing will step down as chairman of the military council and assume the role of interim president, after which a series of orders will be issued under the name of the National Defense and Security Council.
