A representative from the People’s Defense Force has confirmed that military council forces have attacked Nga Yay village, located on the border of Sagaing and Wetlet townships in Sagaing Region, causing civilian casualties and forcing thousands of residents to flee to safety. On July 28, approximately 70 military council troops from Sheinmakhar village entered Nga Yay village and opened fire with small arms, indiscriminately targeting villagers. The military operation has resulted in injuries among the civilian population, though the exact number of casualties and arrests cannot yet be confirmed.
Currently, thousands of residents from villages in both Sagaing and Wetlet townships have been forced to evacuate their homes en masse. Additionally, another military column consisting of over 100 troops has been reported moving from the Mingun area of Sagaing Township toward Sone Kone village. The presence of these military forces has created a highly volatile situation in the region, with local resistance forces warning of potential armed confrontations at any time.
The People’s Defense Force has issued warnings to residents in Wetlet Township to take security precautions due to the increased military presence and the likelihood of armed clashes between resistance forces and military council troops. The resistance forces have advised civilians to be particularly vigilant, noting that military council forces have a history of committing acts of violence against civilians, including burning properties and looting in areas they occupy. The situation remains tense as local residents continue to seek refuge from the military operations, with humanitarian concerns growing for the displaced population.
