
A clash between military council forces and resistance fighters in Malai Township, Mandalay Region, resulted in the death of 10 military council soldiers, with resistance forces recovering 5 bodies and seizing multiple weapons, according to a representative from the Meiktila District Battalion No. 2. The confrontation occurred when military council troops, who had been stationed in Aung Thar village in Malai Township, launched an operation with more than 120 personnel toward Myinthe village on the evening of July 18. The engagement began when resistance forces intercepted the advancing military column.
The battle lasted approximately three hours, during which 10 military council soldiers were killed. The resistance forces had to withdraw when the military council deployed air support. During a subsequent area clearance operation, resistance forces recovered 5 bodies of military council soldiers. They also seized significant military equipment including two G-3 rifles, one MA-2 rifle, three G-3 ammunition magazines, over 100 rounds of 5.56 ammunition, and more than 100 G-3 rounds, as detailed by the representative from Meiktila District Battalion No. 2.
This confrontation occurred as part of ongoing resistance efforts to protect local civilians from the military council’s oppressive actions. According to local residents, military council forces in Malai Township have been engaging in various forms of exploitation, including demanding money from civilians, forcibly requisitioning food supplies, and confiscating civilian property.
