On July 26, four revolutionary alliance groups in Yangon conducted a protest movement against the military council’s misappropriation of international aid funds. The groups exposed that the military council has been misusing emergency relief funds provided by the international community for the earthquake disaster in Sagaing Region. Instead of using these funds for civilian rehabilitation and recovery efforts, the council has been diverting them towards purchasing weapons and military equipment.
The alliance groups revealed that the military council has been conducting airstrikes on villages in earthquake-affected areas, killing innocent civilians, and burning down villages. Additionally, they disclosed that the funds are being misappropriated for preparations of an illegal election to maintain their power. The groups emphasized that the military council is utilizing international aid not for public benefit but solely for sustaining their military dictatorship system.
The four revolutionary alliance groups not only strongly condemned these actions by the military council but also urged the international community to closely monitor the council’s activities and take necessary measures. They recommended that international organizations find appropriate methods to ensure aid reaches earthquake-affected civilians directly, bypassing the military council’s interference. The groups stressed the importance of establishing proper mechanisms to prevent the military council from misusing humanitarian assistance intended for disaster-affected communities.
