The United States government has removed four Myanmar military-linked cronies and arms brokers from its economic sanctions list. US government officials clarified that this removal is not related to the letter sent by coup leader Min Aung Hlaing to President Trump. US Deputy Secretary of Treasury Michael Faulkender explained that the listing and delisting of specially designated persons from economic sanctions is a regular process that follows established procedures and protocols.
White House spokesperson Anna Kelly clarified that the decision to remove these individuals from the sanctions list was initiated last year and was carried out in accordance with Treasury Department regulations. The individuals removed from the sanctions list are Jonathan Myo Kyaw Thaung, Aung Hlaing Oo, Sit Taing Aung, and Tin Latt Min, all of whom are business cronies and arms brokers with connections to the military. According to the US Treasury Department’s announcement, the delisted individuals include Jonathan Myo Kyaw Thaung, owner of KT Services & Logistics Company, Aung Hlaing Oo, owner of MCM Group, Sit Taing Aung, owner of Suntac Technologies, and Tin Latt Min.
Tin Latt Min is the wife of Thein Win Zaw, owner of Shwe Byaing Phyu Company, and is known for her connections to the military council through fuel distribution and telecommunications businesses. Jonathan Myo Kyaw Thaung and Sit Taing Aung were sanctioned during President Biden’s administration in 2022 for their involvement in procuring weapons for the military, while Tin Latt Min was sanctioned in 2024. The delisting process follows standard procedures for removing individuals from sanctions lists and is part of regular review processes conducted by the Treasury Department.
