According to Karenni revolutionary sources, the entire population of Nanmakhon Township in Demoso District, Karenni State, has been forced to flee as the military council launched a major offensive into the area. Beginning July 25, the military council forces advanced into Nanmakhon town using heavy artillery and drones in their assault. The attack has caused residents from more than 50 villages in Nanmakhon to evacuate, with intense military tensions now existing between Loikaw and Nanmakhon.
Nanmakhon, which was previously part of Demoso Township, is now administered as a separate township under the Karenni Interim Executive Council (IEC). The military council forces advanced through Moebye town toward Loikaw, crossing through the Kontha region before targeting Nanmakhon. Currently, the military council has occupied Kyarnyarku village and Phayarni village within Nanmakhon Township and continues to advance further into the area. The military council’s offensive has involved extensive use of heavy weapons and drones, reportedly firing around 100 rounds in their attacks.
The Karenni resistance forces have been forced to retreat due to their limited capacity to respond to the military council’s artillery and drone attacks. The military council forces have now reached Phayarpyu village, where resistance forces continue to fight back, though they face significant challenges in defending against the military’s superior firepower and drone capabilities. The resistance sources indicate that their forces can only return minimal fire compared to the military council’s overwhelming artillery and drone attacks, making it difficult to maintain defensive positions. The situation has resulted in the displacement of the entire civilian population from the township as fighting continues between resistance forces and the advancing military council troops.
