
A tragic accident occurred on the Yangon-Mawlamyine highway when an Arka Min express bus crashed into a police outpost near the Thabyuchaung Bridge, resulting in the death of one police officer and seriously injuring two others. The incident took place around 1:30 PM on July 21, according to local police sources. The accident occurred when the express bus, carrying both passengers and cargo, experienced brake failure and collided with the police outpost located at the Thabyuchaung Bridge checkpoint in Kyaikto Township.
Among the three police officers who were on duty at the outpost at the time of the accident, one was killed instantly while two others sustained severe injuries. Following the incident, five emergency rescue vehicles from Kyaikto town were dispatched to conduct rescue operations. The bus driver fled the scene immediately after the crash. The deceased officer’s body and the two injured officers were transported to Kyaikto Public Hospital for medical treatment. Local authorities reported that the driver of the Arka Min express bus escaped from the scene after the accident, and police are currently conducting a search operation to apprehend him.
According to police sources, while the passengers aboard the Arka Min express bus were unharmed in the incident, the driver’s immediate flight from the scene has prompted local law enforcement to launch a manhunt. Authorities have emphasized the importance of drivers adhering to traffic regulations and maintaining regular brake system inspections to prevent such accidents in the future. The incident has highlighted the ongoing concerns about road safety on the Yangon-Mawlamyine highway, one of Myanmar’s major transportation routes. Local officials have stressed the need for enhanced safety measures and stricter enforcement of vehicle maintenance standards to prevent similar tragedies from occurring.
