
A monk was seriously injured when the military council conducted an airstrike on Kyaukpyauk village in Kyaukphyu Township, Rakhine State, according to local residents. Around 1 AM on July 22, the military council’s fighter jets dropped two bombs on Kyaukpyauk village, destroying monastery buildings and severely injuring a monk. The injured monk was identified as Sayadaw U Asinna, aged 93, from Zainchaung village, who was visiting Kyaukpyauk village at the time of the bombing. Local residents reported that the monk’s condition is critical and concerning.
The military council has been conducting frequent airstrikes in Rakhine State. On July 18, around 11 AM, they also carried out a drone strike on Setipyin village in Rathedaung Township. In that attack, a bomb exploded on a building on the outskirts of the village, though no casualties were reported. Fighting continues between the military council forces and the Arakan Army (AA) in Kyaukphyu Township, with escalating military tensions due to exchanges of fire between both sides.
The military council’s airstrike has resulted in significant damage to monastery buildings in Kyaukpyauk village, causing fear and concern among local residents. Locals point out that the military council is deliberately targeting civilian areas. Currently, the injured monk is receiving medical treatment, but his condition remains life-threatening according to sources. The ongoing military operations in the region have led to increased civilian casualties and displacement, with local communities facing constant threats from aerial bombardments and military activities.
