On July 22, military council vice-chairman Soe Win boasted about recapturing Naung Cho town in northern Shan State from the control of the Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA). He claimed they successfully retook the town through Operation Aung Zeya and would continue to intensify territorial control efforts after analyzing their military strengths and weaknesses. During his visit to Naung Cho town, Soe Win personally conducted promotion ceremonies and awarded honors to officers and soldiers who participated in the recapture operation.
Soe Win explained that military council forces had to temporarily withdraw from Naung Cho town due to various circumstances. He detailed how they had to retreat from the Naung Cho area to the Taung Kham region and the border of Pyin Oo Lwin-Naung Cho township due to advanced technological support and assistance provided to opposing forces. After regrouping and making military preparations at the Taung Kham military zone, they launched Operation Aung Zeya to reclaim Naung Cho town.
The military council leader further stated that they would continue to accelerate efforts to maintain territorial control and security in the area. He emphasized the importance of reviewing their tactical advantages and disadvantages to effectively apply lessons learned on the battlefield. The promotion ceremonies for combat troops and officers were notably conducted right on the frontlines in Naung Cho town, demonstrating the military council’s attempt to boost morale among their forces despite ongoing resistance across the country.
