A military column of the military council was attacked with mines between Myotha Industrial Zone and Gwekone Village in Nganzun Township, Mandalay Region, resulting in at least 5 military personnel casualties. The attack occurred around 1 PM on July 19, when the Nagani Guerrilla Force targeted a military column of approximately 80 personnel with four barrel mines in two separate attacks. According to a representative from the Nagani Guerrilla Force, many military council troops were also wounded in the attack.
The military council forces had been burning villages in Nganzun Township and were using civilian residents as human shields, forcing them to walk in front of their column. The Nagani Guerrilla Force deliberately avoided targeting the front section of the column where civilians were present, instead focusing their attack on the military personnel who were following behind. After the attack, the military council forces ceased their advance and retreated toward Ywa Thaya area.
During their operations in the region, the military council forces had been burning villages and looting civilian properties. The attack was carried out by the Nagani Guerrilla People’s Defense Force from Military Zone 3 of Myingyan, who successfully withdrew from the area without any casualties. The People’s Defense Force has warned local residents to stay away from military council columns and avoid areas where military operations are taking place.
