On July 20th at 7:22 AM, revolutionary forces attacked a military council police vehicle at mile marker 318 on the Yangon-Mandalay highway, resulting in the deaths of two police officers, according to a statement from the Myingyan District Battalions 4-10. The attack was jointly carried out by Myingyan District Battalion 4 and Battalion 10 forces. During the operation, the revolutionary forces seized weapons and ammunition from the police vehicle, including two BA-94 rifles, five ammunition magazines, 123 rounds of 9mm ammunition, and 127 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition. Following the seizure, the revolutionary forces destroyed the police vehicle by setting it on fire. The incident caused the highway to be closed for over an hour, from 8:00 AM to 9:30 AM.
An eyewitness to the incident reported that the clash began around 8:00 AM, with revolutionary forces firing warning shots into the air to prevent civilian vehicles from entering the area. Approximately 100 vehicles were temporarily stopped on the highway during the incident. Military council forces and police personnel subsequently arrived at the scene to conduct clearance operations. Although the road was eventually reopened to normal traffic, military and police forces remained in the area.
The revolutionary forces based in Nyaung Hto Gyi Township frequently engage in combat with military council forces around the 300-mile marker area of the highway and occasionally conduct inspections of passenger vehicles. This region is known to be an area of strong revolutionary activity with frequent confrontations against military council forces. The incident demonstrates the ongoing conflict between revolutionary forces and the military council in central Myanmar, particularly along major transportation routes.
