During the 78th Martyrs’ Day ceremony, the National Unity Government (NUG) Interim President Duwa Lashi La emphasized that the Spring Revolution is not a path for the hesitant, but rather one that demands the sacrifice of lives and livelihoods. He urged that the revolution must continue until its conclusion, as people cannot be freed from oppression as long as the military dictatorship remains deeply rooted in the country.
The President highlighted that throughout Myanmar’s history, numerous martyrs have sacrificed their lives for the people’s freedom, and such sacrifices continue in the current Spring Revolution. He stressed that the ongoing revolution involves fighting against the military dictatorship through the blood and lives of martyrs. The President emphasized the importance of not taking the sacrifices of the current Spring Revolution lightly and warned against rushing or taking shortcuts in the fundamental process of dismantling the military dictatorship, noting that this revolution comes at a great cost.
The Interim President further elaborated that the people of Myanmar cannot escape from the suffering of oppression and torture as long as the military dictatorship remains entrenched. He emphasized that the Spring Revolution is not a path for those who are uncertain but requires the dedication of lives and livelihoods to reach its conclusion. He urged everyone to bow to the spirit of martyrdom that willingly dedicates life and livelihood to the main objectives of the Spring Revolution: destroying the military dictatorship and establishing a new federal democratic nation.
The National League for Democracy’s Central Executive Committee also issued a statement commemorating the 78th Martyrs’ Day, noting that various forces have united to wage a resistance war against the military dictatorship for over four years, successfully controlling certain territories. The statement emphasized the critical importance of preventing these liberated areas from falling back into the hands of the military council. The resistance has demonstrated the unified determination of different forces working together towards the complete elimination of the military dictatorship system.
