
On July 19, the 78th Martyrs’ Day commemoration ceremony was held in Hpakant, Kachin State, with the participation of Kachin People’s Defense Force (KPDF) members, Civil Disobedience Movement (CDM) civil servants, and strike forces. The ceremony was well-attended by local residents who came to pay their respects to the martyred leaders. The event demonstrated the continued unity and resistance of the people against military rule while honoring those who sacrificed their lives for the country’s independence and democracy.
Attendees at the ceremony paid their respects to General Aung San and the other eight martyrs who were assassinated in their struggle for Myanmar’s independence. They also honored the fallen heroes from various ethnic armed revolutionary organizations and Spring Revolution martyrs who have given their lives in the current struggle for democracy. The ceremony included laying wreaths at the memorial site and observing moments of silence in remembrance of all those who sacrificed their lives for the cause of freedom and democracy in Myanmar. Participants emphasized the importance of continued unified struggle by all people to end the military dictatorship and establish a federal democratic union.
During the ceremony, participants reflected on the sacrifices made by the martyred leaders who fought hard to achieve Myanmar’s independence. They discussed the crucial importance of today’s Myanmar people remaining united in their continued struggle against military dictatorship. The attendees also made a collective commitment to continue working together for the rights of all ethnic nationalities and the emergence of a federal democratic system. They emphasized that the spirit of the martyrs who gave their lives for the country’s independence continues to inspire the current generation in their fight for genuine democracy and freedom from military rule.
