According to an official announcement from the Ministry of Health under the National Unity Government, a clinic in-charge was killed by military gunfire while conducting field healthcare services for people in the Karenni region. On July 14, Soe Reh, a 26-year-old clinic in-charge from the Karenni Mobile Health Committee (KnMHC), was killed by military council forces while providing healthcare services to local residents during a field mission.
The deceased Soe Reh had completed a one-year medical training course with the Karenni Mobile Health Committee in August 2023 and had been dedicating his efforts to serving the healthcare needs of local communities. The Ministry of Health under the National Unity Government has recognized Soe Reh as a hero and expressed their deep condolences to his family. The tragic incident highlights the ongoing risks faced by healthcare workers who continue to serve their communities despite the dangerous conditions.
In the more than four years since the military coup, there have been continuous attacks on civilians and healthcare workers. According to the National Unity Government’s statement, 133 healthcare workers, including those participating in the Civil Disobedience Movement (CDM), have been killed, and 135 have been injured. These brutal attacks by the military against innocent civilians and healthcare workers have severely disrupted the delivery of essential healthcare services to the people. The incident underscores the military’s ongoing campaign of violence against medical professionals who are simply trying to provide necessary care to their communities.
