On July 17, the military council conducted an aerial bombardment on three villages in the eastern part of Wetlet Township, Sagaing Region, resulting in the death of more than 15 civilians and leaving many others injured. The targeted villages were Shargwe, Ngapatchaung, and Yelaymaw, according to local information sources who confirmed the incident.
A Y-12 aircraft from Tada-U Air Base conducted the systematic bombing operation around 5 PM. Reports indicate that seven civilians from Shargwe village and eight from Ngapatchaung village were killed in the attack. The extent of damage in Yelaymaw village is yet to be determined, according to local information networks.
Local sources point out that this aerial attack deliberately targeted civilian residential areas, constituting a war crime. The investigation into the exact number of casualties and detailed information about the injured is ongoing, with expectations that the death toll may rise. The attack has caused significant destruction to civilian infrastructure and homes in the affected villages, demonstrating another instance of the military council’s use of airpower against civilian populations.
