According to military sources in Naypyidaw, the military council is planning to award promotions, rank advancements, and monetary rewards to military officers and soldiers who participated in recapturing Namhkam city from the Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) in northern Shan State. The military council launched a major offensive against Namhkam in May and completed the capture of urban areas on July 15th, deploying significant forces in the operation.
The military council is preparing to reward all officers and soldiers who participated in the Namhkam recapture operation, led by Deputy Commander-in-Chief Major General Naing Naing Oo of the Bureau of Special Operations. Sources indicate that posthumous heroism medals will be awarded to soldiers who died in the fighting. Additionally, military leadership is studying the strategic approaches used in recapturing Namhkam with great interest, planning to apply similar tactics in operations to retake other territories. The military council is also considering having Major General Naing Naing Oo lead future operations and share tactical experiences from the Namhkam campaign.
Following their withdrawal from Namhkam, the TNLA announced that they have relocated their civilian administration offices to secure locations. The TNLA stated that due to the military council’s intense offensive operations that began in May, fighting has continued to be severe, making it difficult to maintain city administrative functions. However, they confirmed that they will continue to provide public services from their new locations. The TNLA also issued a warning that fighting around Namhkam will continue to be intense. The relocation of civilian administrative offices was carried out to ensure the continuity of public services while maintaining operational security in the face of ongoing military pressure.
