
Three new soldiers from the Northwestern Command headquarters based in Monywa, Sagaing Region, have defected to the People’s Defense Force (PDF), as confirmed by an official from the Monywa Township People’s Defense Force. The incident occurred on July 13, when the new recruits made contact with the PDF’s Township 2 Combat Unit and defected without bringing any weapons. The defection was coordinated through prior communication with the local resistance forces.
The defected soldiers are being kept in a secure location by the Monywa Township PDF while their backgrounds are being verified to ensure they have not been involved in any war crimes. According to officials, investigations have shown that these individuals were not involved in any war crimes, and arrangements are being made to accommodate their future plans according to their wishes. The PDF is working to ensure their safety and facilitate their transition to civilian life or resistance activities, depending on their preferences.
