The military council has ordered Major General Kyaw Lin Maung, commander of the Southeast Military Command, to submit a defense statement regarding the continuous losses of military outposts along the Thai-Myanmar border in KNU Brigade 6 and 7 territories in Karen State. This directive came after the loss of Ukayit Hta camp, a major military stronghold on the Thai-Myanmar border, on July 12. The Naypyidaw military court has instructed the commander to provide a detailed report explaining the circumstances behind these consecutive losses.
According to military sources in Naypyidaw, following the submission of the defense statement, an investigation committee is expected to be formed, potentially leading to disciplinary actions. There are speculations about possible changes in leadership positions, including the Southeast Command commander, deputy commander, and tactical operations commanders. The situation has drawn attention from higher military leadership, including Deputy Senior General Soe Win, who led the Aung Zeya operation to regain control of Myawaddy township and the Asian Highway, and Lieutenant General Nyunt Win Swe, commander of Special Operations Command-4, who oversees military operations in Karen State, Mon State, and Tanintharyi Region. These senior officials are reportedly preparing to take punitive actions against Commander Major General Kyaw Lin Maung.
Currently, the last two remaining military outposts in Myawaddy township along the Thai-Myanmar border – the Waw Lay strategic camp and the Ti Thel Lay camp – are isolated and dependent solely on air support, unable to receive ground reinforcements. When the KNLA and PDF forces captured the Ukayit Hta military council camp on July 12, nearly 100 military council troops were forced to flee into Thailand. The KNU is now positioned to take control of the entire Thai-Myanmar border area, with only two military council camps remaining to be captured.
From March through July, resistance forces have successfully captured numerous military council camps along the Thai-Myanmar border, including Pu Lu Tu, Khlay Day, Thaw Kho Bi Khee, Maw Phar Thu, Ta Lay, May La, Black Do, Maw Khee, Bogyoke Naing Camp, Ka Nae Lay, Shwe Aye Myaing, Thae Baw Boe, Htee Ka Play, and Ukayit Hta camps. Operations are continuing to capture the remaining two camps – Waw Lay strategic camp and Ti Thel Lay camp – as part of the broader effort to secure complete control over the border region.
