Local military sources have confirmed that a joint operation by the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) and Kachin People’s Defense Force (KPDF) against the Khun Sai Yang military checkpoint on the Myitkyina-Tanai road in Kachin State resulted in the death of seven military council troops and the capture of three soldiers. The attack occurred on the morning of July 10, targeting a position jointly held by military council forces and the Min Zae Thant People’s Militia.
The battle lasted for over one and a half hours, with revolutionary forces successfully withdrawing without any casualties. The three captured prisoners of war were identified as conscripted soldiers, and weapons and ammunition were also seized during the operation. The Khun Sai Yang checkpoint, located on the Myitkyina-Tanai-Ledo road, has been serving as a key outpost for military council forces and the Min Zae Thant People’s Militia group.
According to local military experts, this engagement represents a significant blow to military council forces and has impacted their control in the region. The captured conscripts were reportedly among those forcibly recruited by the military council, highlighting the ongoing practice of forced military service affecting young people in the area. During these ongoing conflicts, local civilians have been forced to evacuate to safer areas, significantly disrupting their daily lives and livelihoods. The successful operation demonstrates the continuing resistance against military council forces in Kachin State and the effectiveness of coordinated actions between various resistance groups.
