According to local residents, military battalions stationed at the foot of Mandalay Hill conducted heavy artillery strikes throughout the night targeting the Mingun area, causing artillery sounds to echo across the entire city of Mandalay. The artillery strikes were reportedly launched in response to fighting near Khotaung village in the Mingun area of Sagaing Township, Sagaing Region. The military units based at Mandalay Hill fired artillery shells targeting the areas around Mingun and Khotaung village throughout the night, with the artillery support apparently aimed at reinforcing military council troops in the Mingun area.
Military installations near the foot of Mandalay Hill include the Military Equipment Battalion (Main), Infantry Battalion 95, Mobile Infantry Division 101, and Mechanized Infantry units. These military council forces directed artillery fire toward the Mingun area while aircraft were also seen conducting aerial operations over the conflict zones. According to a Mandalay resident, the sound of artillery fire from Mandalay Hill could be heard throughout the city, along with circling aircraft, and at least four particularly loud artillery explosions were noted. The ongoing military operations highlight the continued use of heavy weapons and airpower by military forces against areas where resistance forces are active.
