Military installations near the foot of Mandalay Hill include the Military Equipment Battalion (Main), Infantry Battalion 95, Mobile Infantry Division 101, and Mechanized Infantry units. These military council forces directed artillery fire toward the Mingun area while aircraft were also seen conducting aerial operations over the conflict zones. According to a Mandalay resident, the sound of artillery fire from Mandalay Hill could be heard throughout the city, along with circling aircraft, and at least four particularly loud artillery explosions were noted.
