The military council has sentenced Ko Paing Phyo Min (aka) Di Ray, a member of the All Burma Federation of Student Unions (ABFSU) Alumni Force, and Ko Shein Wai Aung, a former executive of Dagon University Students’ Union, to 20 years imprisonment each, according to an official from the ABFSU Alumni Force. Following their arrest by the military on October 9, 2024, the prison court in Insein sentenced them to 3 years imprisonment under Section 505(a) on February 19, 2025. Subsequently, the Botahtaung District Court imposed additional sentences on June 26, 2025: 7 years under Section 52(a) and 10 years under Section 50(n), resulting in a total of 20 years imprisonment for each activist.
Ko Paing Phyo Min (aka) Di Ray was a leading figure in the Anti-Junta Alliance Yangon (AJAY) and had consistently led public protest movements against the military dictatorship in Yangon. Similarly, Ko Shein Wai Aung, a former student of Dagon University, was a non-violent youth leader who actively participated in student affairs and youth movements. He was also a prominent leader in Yangon-based anti-military dictatorship activities.
An official from the ABFSU Alumni Force stated that the military typically uses courts and laws as protection to suppress those who oppose them. They expressed their determination to continue fighting without retreat until reaching their trusted goal, both for their imprisoned comrades and all citizens who have not yet gained freedom. They emphasized that the liberation of the people and the construction of a new nation remains their steadfast resolution.
