A representative from the People’s Liberation Organization and People’s Liberation Army (PIO/PIA) has confirmed that at least 25 military council troops were killed during eight weeks of fighting along the Pathein-Monywa road and Aung-Padaung road sections in Magway Region’s Upper Minbu Township. Additionally, one civilian was killed due to military airstrikes in the area.
During the eight-week period from late March to late May, resistance forces conducted two mine attacks and six direct engagement operations against military council columns moving along the Aung-Padaung road section leading to Nat Ye Kan camp in Ngape Township and the Pathein-Monywa road section. These operations resulted in at least 25 military council casualties and more than 63 serious injuries among military council forces.
The military council conducted more than 10 column operations in the area, during which they burned down two civilian homes and arrested at least nine civilians. Furthermore, they carried out airstrikes on non-military targets including a school and a monastery, and conducted at least three drone attacks targeting civilians. These attacks resulted in one civilian death and more than five civilian injuries. The resistance forces have emphasized that they took great care during their operations to avoid civilian casualties, which presented significant operational challenges. Local residents, company employees, transportation service providers, and volunteers are advised to stay alert for military movements and to coordinate their travel with the PIO/PIA and Upper Minbu People’s Defense Forces for safety reasons.
