
Since the military coup, resistance forces have shot down multiple military council aircraft and helicopters, resulting in the deaths of 43 military personnel including one brigadier general. In May 2021, the KIA shot down a Mi-35 attack helicopter in Kachin State, killing pilot Major Kyaw Zeyar Htun, co-pilot Captain Than Tun Linn, and Master Sergeant Kyaw Swa Aung. In September, the AA shot down another Mi-35 attack helicopter in Rakhine State, killing Major Soe Moe Hlaing.
In 2023, a military council helicopter was shot down in Sagaing Region’s Homalin Township, and a K-8W fighter jet crashed in Karenni State, killing pilot Captain Thaw Zin and Lieutenant Aung Phyo Kyaw. In November, another K-8W fighter jet was shot down, resulting in the capture of pilot Major Khine Than Moe and the death of co-pilot Lieutenant Zanay Htet Maung.
In January 2024, a Mi-17 helicopter crashed in Kachin State, killing eight military personnel including pilots and crew members. Later, the KIA shot down an FTC 2000 G fighter jet, killing both pilots. In Karen State, a Eurocopter AS 365 Dauphin helicopter was shot down, killing six military personnel including Brigadier General Aye Min Naung, commander of Division 44.
In 2025, two Mi-17 helicopters were shot down in Kachin State, and an F-7 fighter jet was shot down in Sagaing Region, killing pilot Captain Nay Min Kyaw. In Karenni State, an FTC 2000 G fighter jet was shot down, killing both pilots. Throughout the revolutionary period, the military council has continued to lose aircraft and helicopters, resulting in significant military casualties.
