A spokesperson from the People’s Defense Force-Punnyawaddy (Taungdwin Gyi) has confirmed that eight military council soldiers, including a captain, were killed in a mine attack on the Kopin-Thagara road section in Sinpaungwe Township, Magway Region. The attack occurred when soldiers were traveling for a checkpoint shift change. The incident took place at 9:30 AM on June 27, targeting military council troops emerging from both the Thasone and Thyapinsan checkpoints. The attack resulted in eight fatalities and eleven severe injuries among military council forces.
The operation involved the strategic placement of two Padaythar mines – one near the Thasone checkpoint close to the prison administration office, and another near the Thyapinsan checkpoint. The deceased were transported to Kopin District Hospital, where official death certificates were issued. The attack was jointly carried out by the Tharake District Battalion No. 5 (Sinpaungwe Township) and the People’s Defense Force-Punnyawaddy (Taungdwin Gyi). The resistance forces successfully withdrew from the area without suffering any casualties.
The People’s Defense Force official issued important safety warnings to local civilians, advising them to avoid areas near military council soldiers and checkpoints, exercise caution when traveling through routes with multiple checkpoints, and be particularly careful along the Bago Yoma route, especially for timber and bamboo transportation vehicles. Special warnings were also issued to residents, homes, and shops located near checkpoints to take precautionary measures and avoid these areas when possible. The official emphasized the importance of these safety measures given the ongoing security situation in the region.
