A soldier from the military council who became separated from his unit during a military operation in Aunglan Township, Magway Region, was captured alive by revolutionary forces. The incident occurred on June 27 when resistance forces conducting area clearance operations encountered and captured the isolated soldier in densely forested terrain. The capture took place during a period when the military council’s column was conducting operations in the area, leading to the soldier becoming separated from his unit due to the challenging terrain.
The captured soldier was found in possession of significant military equipment, including one MA1 rifle, three ammunition magazines, 200 rounds of 5.56 ammunition, and one 60mm mortar shell. The revolutionary forces initially maintained custody of the captured soldier and were conducting interrogation procedures when the incident took a turn. During this period of detention, while the forces were attempting to conduct a proper investigation, the captured soldier suddenly attempted to resist and escape. This resistance led to the revolutionary forces having to engage in pursuit, resulting in the soldier’s death during the attempted capture.
The operation was conducted as a joint effort between Battalion 902, District 1 Battalion of Salay, and the Aunglan Township People’s Defense Force. A representative from Battalion 902, Company 3 of Thaungthingyi Company, has called for continued public support and participation in revolutionary activities. Specifically, they have requested public cooperation in their ongoing ‘Thunder Shield’ initiative, emphasizing the importance of civilian participation in their resistance efforts. The incident highlights the ongoing complex situation in the region as revolutionary forces continue their operations against military council forces while maintaining their commitment to systematic engagement procedures.
