The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the National Unity Government (NUG) issued a statement on July 2, requesting Myanmar citizens abroad to refrain from involvement in the current political situation in Thailand. The statement specifically addressed Myanmar citizens who are in Thailand for various reasons, including those who fled from the military council’s oppression, urging them to avoid areas where Thai citizens are conducting protests and to abstain from participating in any political activities in Thailand.
The statement emphasized the importance of Myanmar citizens living in neighboring countries to maintain harmony with local laws, cultural traditions, and social communities of their host country. The NUG expressed deep gratitude to the Thai King, government, parliament, military, and people for their sympathy and support towards Myanmar citizens. The government stressed that it is crucial for Myanmar citizens temporarily residing in Thailand to respect and comply with Thai customs and regulations while receiving shelter in the country.
The statement also clarified that Myanmar citizens who have fled to Thailand do not pose any threat to Thailand’s national interests. They are merely victims who had to escape from the brutal oppression of the military council. The NUG assured that these Myanmar citizens are temporary residents who will return to their motherland once democracy is restored and the military coup ends in Myanmar. The government continues to work towards ensuring Myanmar citizens can live harmoniously within Thai society while respecting local customs and traditions, and appeals to Thai authorities to continue providing humanitarian assistance to Myanmar citizens seeking refuge in their country.
