Local residents have reported that the military council is continuously destroying the Paungkaung-Oktwin road and Paungkaung-Taungoo road in Paungkaung Township, Bago Region. On July 1st at 5:30 PM, military council forces systematically destroyed the Pyay-Taungoo road near Nyaungkone village in Paungkaung Township, Bago Region, using excavators and bulldozers. Earlier that same day at 11 AM, the military also destroyed sections of the Paungkaung-Oktwin road between Sankone village and Kyoekone village.
Previously, on June 20th at 6 PM, the military council had destroyed two sections of the Paungkaung-Oktwin road. The road section near Gwaypin Kone village, between Niparsay village and Taunglann village, was destroyed by a military column of 9 personnel led by Captain Aung Myint Myat from the Taunglann tower security outpost, citing security reasons. The military council has also destroyed the forest road section at the border between Paungkaung and Oktwin using excavators.
Local sources indicate that the military council’s primary reason for destroying these major roads is their fear of People’s Defense Force (PDF) entries into the area. The road destruction has severely impacted local civilians, who are now facing significant difficulties in accessing healthcare, education, food supplies, and general commodity transportation. Currently, there is military tension between the military council forces and revolutionary forces in Paungkaung Township, Bago Region. The military has lost control of all areas except the town center, with People’s Defense Forces maintaining primary control of the surrounding areas, according to local sources.
