The National Unity Government (NUG) spokesperson U Nay Boon Latt has expressed serious concerns about the health and safety of State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi and President U Win Myint, who are being held in detention by the military council without adequate medical care. This statement was made during yesterday’s public announcement program 13/2025, addressing both the Myanmar public and international community.
U Nay Boon Latt emphasized grave concerns for the health of national leaders and all political prisoners, stating that those responsible in the military council’s prison system will be held accountable for their cruel treatment of political prisoners. According to Myanmar Prison Witness, Aung San Suu Kyi is being held under tight security at the Special Operations Command headquarters in Naypyidaw, where she is suffering from dental and heart-related conditions. Despite her medical needs, she is being deliberately denied full medical treatment and subjected to intentional mistreatment.
Aung San Suu Kyi is being detained at the Special Operations Command headquarters, located 14 miles from Naypyidaw prison, under the supervision of an official holding the rank of Lieutenant General. Reports indicate that she is being denied basic prisoner rights, including family visits, and is facing various other violations of prisoner rights. Regarding her health care, while some medical treatment is being provided, it is inadequate and limited to basic medication administered by prison doctors, falling far short of the comprehensive medical care required for her conditions. The situation continues to raise serious concerns about the well-being of both national leaders and other political prisoners held by the military council.
