The People’s Defense Organization of Bago District has confirmed that four military council soldiers were killed during an attack on Infantry Battalion 598 in Shwegyin Township, Bago Region, while they were reconstructing bunkers and trenches. According to Ko Phyo Maung Ko, the head of the Bago District People’s Defense Organization, the attack was carried out in collaboration with the Karen National Union (KNU)/Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) Brigade 3, Battalion 7, along with the Bago District PDF and Strategy 36 Dawn Battalion on the afternoon of June 29.
The revolutionary forces employed heavy weapons and sniper rifles to target the military council’s fortifications. Additionally, they conducted a sniper attack on the military council’s artillery position in Thuye Thumin village in Waw Township. During the engagement, four military council soldiers were killed, and several others were wounded. The resistance forces have been effectively responding to military council movements in the Sittaung River bank area, with ongoing operations against Battalion 598 since May 8.
Ko Phyo Maung Ko explained that they are continuing their offensive to prevent the military council from re-establishing their positions. He stated that despite the rainy season, they are determined to achieve complete territorial control on the eastern bank of the Sittaung River. The attack coincided with the launch of the Bago District PDF’s ‘One Thousand Rice Bags, One Thousand Lakhs’ campaign, which aims to provide support for revolutionary forces and displaced civilians in eight townships under their command.
The Bago District PDF has made an earnest appeal to both domestic and international supporters to contribute what they can to ensure adequate food supplies for resistance fighters and internally displaced people within the region. This operation demonstrates the continued coordination between various revolutionary forces in their struggle against the military council, as they work to maintain pressure on military installations while simultaneously addressing the humanitarian needs of affected populations in the area.
