
In Mandalay Region’s Nyaung-U and Thaung-tha Townships, military operations by the military council have resulted in the destruction of nearly 100 homes across 6 villages and the killing of 2 civilians, according to local sources. Beginning June 25, the military council conducted operations in the area, raiding villages and committing acts of violence against civilians. The military’s operations have caused widespread destruction and displacement in the affected areas.
In Nyaung-U Township, 20 houses in Sin Thar Myay village, 56 houses in Kamma village, 1 house in Thanatpin village, and 20 houses in Zay Ma Gyi village were burned down. Additionally, on June 29, 6 houses in Taw Pyar village were destroyed by fire, and Kyin Zalut village in Thaung-tha Township was also burned. The military council forces arrested and killed two civilians from Kyin Zalut village, with reports indicating that one victim was burned to death while another was dismembered into three pieces. Local residents have confirmed these incidents of violence against civilians.
A representative from the Nyaung-U District People’s Defense Force reported that the military council’s Nga Yauk column had burned down 5 villages in Nyaung-U Township and 1 village in Thaung-tha Township during this operation. While there were arrests in Nyaung-U Township, no deaths were reported there. However, the deaths of two civilians in Kyin Zalut village of Thaung-tha Township were reported, though the exact details of these incidents could not be fully verified. The ongoing violence by the military council has caused fear and anxiety among local residents, with many forced to flee to safer locations.
