Military and revolutionary sources have confirmed that following the death of four senior military council officers, including lieutenant colonels, in Minhlah Township, Bago Region, the military council has dispatched Division 66 Commander Brigadier General Win Thu Lin to lead military operations in the area. On June 16th, around 4 PM, revolutionary forces attacked the military council’s Setkwin Tarsone checkpoint near Ohtwin village in Minhlah Township. In this battle, at least 20 military personnel were killed, including Lieutenant Colonel Zaw Myo Win from the Yangon Region Administrative Team, Major Phyo Min Oo from the Oktwin Township Administrative Team, Deputy Police Colonel Soe Khaing from the Yangon Region, and Major Yan Naing Aung from the Minhlah Township Administrative Team.
Following these casualties, the Naypyidaw Military Headquarters ordered Division 66 Commander Brigadier General Win Thu Lin to establish a base at Infantry Battalion 1 in Minhlah Township and lead military operations in the Bago Yoma region. He is personally commanding three columns, each consisting of 500 troops. The military council’s top leadership has tasked him with regaining control of the Minhlah area, threatening him with dismissal if he fails to achieve this objective. This pressure has led to Brigadier General Win Thu Lin personally overseeing operations in the conflict zone. Since June 19th, the military council has launched large-scale offensive operations in Minhlah Township, burning down nearly ten villages, conducting artillery strikes, and carrying out civilian killings.
Local revolutionary forces report that thousands of civilians have been displaced, and the military situation remains extremely tense. Brigadier General Win Thu Lin, a graduate of Defense Services Academy intake 39, is conducting intense military operations under pressure from the military council. The military sources indicate that the council’s new strategy involves sending high-ranking officers directly into conflict zones to oversee operations, with immediate consequences for failure. The situation in Minhlah has become particularly severe, with widespread displacement of civilians and escalating military actions. The military council’s operations, which began on June 19th, have involved massive troop deployments and have resulted in significant civilian casualties and property destruction.
