Five civilians were injured in an airstrike by the military council forces near Kambawza Shan Monastery in Kyaukme, northern Shan State. According to an official from the Nam Khong Shan Charity Association, the military council conducted an aerial bombardment at around 2:30 PM on June 29 near the monastery located on Panglong Road in Ward 1 of Kyaukme town. The attack resulted in injuries to two men and three women.
The Nam Khong Shan Charity Association’s Kyaukme branch immediately transported the injured civilians to nearby medical facilities. While none of the victims sustained life-threatening injuries, local residents reported that the military council deliberately targeted residential areas during the attack. The airstrike caused significant damage to the monastery buildings and ordination halls, though all monks and novices at the monastery remained safe, as announced by the monastery’s abbot through social media.
According to local sources, while there is a General Administration Office near the Kambawza Shan Monastery that may have been the intended target of the military council’s airstrike, the actual damage and casualties were suffered by innocent civilians and the monastery complex. Prior to this incident, the military council had also conducted airstrikes on Kyaukme town on June 27 and June 24, resulting in the deaths of five civilians and injuries to many others. These repeated attacks on civilian areas demonstrate a pattern of violence against the local population, with religious buildings and civilian infrastructure bearing the brunt of the destruction.
