The Karen National Union (KNU) Central has announced that two houses were destroyed due to artillery attacks by the military forces on villages in Kyaikto Township, Mon State. According to the statement, these attacks were deliberately targeted without any ongoing battles in the area. On June 15 at 9:49 AM, Artillery Battalion 310 of the military forces fired four 120mm artillery shells near Pinneikone village in Kyaikto Township, which exploded in civilian work areas. Later at noon, they fired another 120mm artillery shell that landed in Zeebyaung 1 village, destroying one house.
On June 26 at 7:40 PM, without any ongoing conflict, soldiers from Infantry Battalion 598 under the Southern Command Headquarters in Taungoo, stationed at Zalutgyi, fired two 81mm artillery shells at Win Kan village in the Win Kan village tract. This attack resulted in the destruction of another house, according to local residents. Human rights observers point out that such deliberate targeting of civilian homes constitutes war crimes. These attacks demonstrate a pattern of intentional targeting of civilian areas by military forces, causing significant damage to residential properties and civilian infrastructure.
Similarly, in Sagaing Region’s Shwebo Township, the military forces conducted indiscriminate artillery attacks on Ohbo village without any ongoing battles, resulting in injuries to three civilians, as confirmed by a representative from the People’s Defense Force. On June 26 around 4 PM, soldiers from the military checkpoint at Shwebo South Gate on the Shwebo-Mandalay road conducted random artillery strikes that hit Ohbo village. The attack wounded three people: 35-year-old Ko Kyaw Min Khaing and two others whose names are unknown – one man and one woman. Local sources confirmed that the injured victims are receiving medical treatment at nearby hospitals. These incidents represent a continuing pattern of military violence against civilian populations, with artillery attacks being conducted on residential areas without military targets or ongoing conflicts.
