Thai authorities conducted a raid this morning in Chonburi Province, resulting in the arrest of 15 foreign nationals, including 10 Myanmar citizens and 5 Chinese nationals, who were found in possession of ammunition. The operation was carried out jointly by officers from Thailand’s Anti-Human Trafficking Police Division (ACTPD) and the Department of Labor, who conducted inspections at various factories throughout the Chonburi region.
The arrested individuals were found to be lacking proper documentation for legal residence in Thailand, and some attempted to flee during the inspection. Thai authorities immediately transferred the detainees to the Bang Bong Police Station in Chonburi district, where they are currently being interrogated regarding the ammunition found in their possession. This incident represents part of the Thai government’s ongoing efforts to control illegal residency and weapons possession within their borders.
Thailand serves as a major destination for migrants from Myanmar and other neighboring countries. The political instability in Myanmar over recent years has led to an increased influx of Myanmar nationals into Thailand. However, Thai authorities regularly conduct operations to arrest and deport illegal residents, with cases involving weapons or ammunition typically resulting in more severe legal consequences. The current investigation at Bang Bong Police Station is focused on determining the source of the ammunition and any potential connections to broader illegal activities in the region.
