A senior official from the People’s Defense Force (PDF) Southern Command’s Military Region 2 has confirmed that at least 7 military council soldiers were killed and 22 were captured as prisoners of war during an operation in Kyaukkyi Township, Bago Region. The attack, which took place on June 26 as part of the Sit Taung River Valley Operation, resulted in the military council forces retreating in disarray with significant casualties. The revolutionary forces also seized 28 various weapons, ammunition, and numerous military equipment during the operation.
The operation was conducted under the command of Military Region 2 (JOC) and involved a joint force of the People’s Defense Force (PDF) and the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA). The participating units included Strategy 25 Battalion 3702, Special Commando Battalion, and Spring Warrior Column under the Bago Division Military Command Strategy 25, along with KNLA Battalion 8 and Battalion 9. The coordinated attack demonstrated the growing effectiveness of resistance forces’ joint operations against military council positions in the region.
The allied forces have confirmed that all captured prisoners of war are being treated in accordance with the Geneva Convention, ensuring proper humanitarian treatment and systematic detention procedures. The successful operation represents another significant blow to the military council’s control in the area, with the resistance forces continuing to maintain pressure on military council positions throughout the region. This engagement is part of the ongoing struggle against the military dictatorship, with resistance forces maintaining their commitment to dismantling the military council’s control while adhering to international humanitarian laws in their operations.
