In Hsihseng Township of Pa-O Self-Administered Zone in Southern Shan State, the military council and Pa-O National Organization (PNO) militia forces have been burning civilian homes and conducting artillery attacks. On June 25 at around 8 PM, without any ongoing conflict, the military council and PNO forces fired nine rounds of 60mm artillery shells at Naung Bo village in Taung Shae village tract. The attack resulted in injuries to a 49-year-old male resident and destroyed one house. The PNLA Information Department reported that these attacks occurred in areas where there was no military activity or fighting.
The injured resident, Mwe Done, was rescued by the Pa-O National Liberation Army (PNLA) rescue team, who provided necessary medical treatment. From June 23, the military council and PNO forces stationed in Tapu Htoe village have been systematically burning down civilian homes. The PNLA Information Department has confirmed that these attacks on civilian areas continue despite the absence of any military engagement in the Taung Shae village tract area. The forces have been deliberately targeting civilian settlements with heavy artillery and destroying residential properties.
Simultaneously, in Pegu Region, similar attacks have occurred in Mone and Kyaukkyi townships, where military council forces’ indiscriminate artillery fire has resulted in the death of two civilians, according to the Karen National Union’s Kler Lwee Htu District. On June 24, military forces stationed at Nat Than Kwin in Kyaukkyi Township fired one 120mm artillery shell at Inn Net farmland. The following day, on June 25, Infantry Battalion 264 based in Pein Zaluq fired three 120mm artillery shells at Kanyin Kyoe village and Samin Inn Kon village. The military’s Light Infantry Battalion 439, based at Kanyut Kwin in Mone Township, continued artillery attacks on Lin Yaung Kin village on June 26.
These attacks resulted in the immediate deaths of Ma Hanni Soe, age 30, from Chauk Ain Su village, and Maung Bone Chit Naing, age 20, from Kanyin Tae village. The military council forces continue to conduct artillery attacks and burn civilian homes even in areas where there is no active conflict. These actions demonstrate a pattern of deliberate targeting of civilian areas and infrastructure, as reported by various ethnic armed organizations and resistance forces monitoring the situation. The military council’s aggressive actions against civilians persist despite the absence of any military necessity or legitimate tactical objectives in these areas.
