According to Thai-Myanmar border military sources, 42 military council troops, including a battalion commander with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, have fled to Thailand with weapons from Thee Kaplay military base in Myawaddy Township, Karen State, and are now being detained by Thai authorities. The revolutionary forces captured the military council’s Thee Kaplay camp on the Thai-Myanmar border at 3:45 PM on June 22, after which the military council soldiers fled to Thailand.
While pursuing the fleeing soldiers, revolutionary forces managed to capture 4 soldiers alive. However, 42 military personnel, including the battalion commander (Lieutenant Colonel), 4 officers, 23 non-commissioned officers and sergeants, and 15 privates, escaped to Thailand with 39 weapons. Thai military forces have confiscated their weapons and are currently conducting interrogations. Some soldiers are still reportedly fleeing in Myanmar territory.
According to KTLA (Karen National Liberation Army) statement, revolutionary alliance forces had surrounded and besieged the military council’s Thee Kaplay camp since early June, conducting continuous day and night drone attacks. A clash occurred between military council troops and revolutionary forces about 500 meters from the Thai border, resulting in 3 military council troops killed and 4 captured alive. The remaining military council members abandoned their weapons and fled into Thailand. During the battle, revolutionary forces seized various weapons including three 60mm mortars, two RPGs, 12 small arms, heavy ammunition, 60mm mortar rounds, 7.62mm ammunition, 5.56mm ammunition, and 40mm grenades. Six bodies of military council soldiers were also recovered from inside the camp.
The KTLA’s statement confirmed that revolutionary forces had been conducting siege operations on the Thee Kaplay camp throughout June, employing drones for continuous attacks until the military council troops abandoned the position on June 22. The revolutionary forces pursued the retreating troops, leading to engagements approximately 500 meters from the Thai border. The remaining military council forces abandoned their weapons during their retreat into Thailand, leaving behind significant amounts of military equipment and ammunition which was subsequently seized by revolutionary forces during their clearing operations of the camp.
