According to a source from the Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (UMFCCI), military council leader Min Aung Hlaing will be accompanied by his family members and crony businessmen on his visit to Belarus and Russia today. The trip includes attendance at the fourth Europe-Asia Economic Forum (EEF 2025) in Minsk, Belarus, scheduled for June 26-27.
During the visit, the military council leader will have separate meetings with the President of Belarus, who currently holds the rotating chairmanship of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), and the Chairman of the Europe-Asia Economic Commission Board. The itinerary includes visits to factories and industrial facilities. The trip will focus on discussions regarding strategic cooperation between the two countries in various sectors, including economic and security matters, as well as business relationships with EAEU member countries.
The UMFCCI source confirmed that selected business cronies personally chosen by Min Aung Hlaing will be permitted to join the delegation. The group includes representatives from UMFCCI and various industrialists. The selection of participants was made through a formal listing process, with UMFCCI business representatives forming part of the economic delegation.
Following the Belarus visit, Min Aung Hlaing will proceed to the Buryatia region of Russia, where he plans to study agricultural operations and industrial facilities. This trip is viewed by analysts as part of the military council’s efforts to gain international recognition and strengthen its diplomatic ties with countries that maintain relations with the regime. The presence of business cronies and UMFCCI representatives indicates an attempt to establish economic connections despite international isolation faced by the military council.
