In Ward 1 of Htugyi Town, Ingapu Township, Ayeyarwady Region, a military service lottery draw was conducted today where all young people aged between 18 and 35 years were selected for military service. The draw, overseen by Ward Administrator Raza Htun, resulted in no blank lottery tickets, meaning every youth was selected for military service. The lottery included even those with health issues, affecting over 200 young people in total.
A mother from Ward 1 of Htugyi Town reported that all young people between 18 and 35 years were required to participate in the lottery draw, including those with health conditions, with no exemptions granted. However, family members and relatives of Ward Administrator Raza Htun were notably exempt from the lottery process. The military service call-ups have already progressed through batches 1 to 14, during which time none of the administrator’s relatives have been included in the selection process, while young people from outside his family continue to be called up for service.
According to one of the youths required to participate in the lottery, the administrator is now arranging the service schedule for the more than 200 selected individuals based on a seniority system and batch assignments. The selection process has notably excluded all relatives of the ward administrator while including all other young people listed in the household registry who fall within the specified age range. The systematic selection of youth for military service continues to affect families throughout the ward, with the administrator’s family being the only ones consistently avoiding service obligations.
