The Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA)-led allied forces have successfully captured the Htee Ka Play military camp located on the Thai-Myanmar border in Myawaddy Township, Karen State, on June 22. According to military sources, after the battle, military council troops fled to the Thai side. The allied forces began their operation with drone strikes on the camp starting June 9, followed by an initial ground assault into the camp area on June 21, before finally securing complete control by the afternoon of the following day.
The Htee Ka Play military camp, a strategically important outpost near Waw Lay strategic hill, housed between 70 to 90 military council troops. The location previously served as the headquarters of the Karen National Union. While there were two unsuccessful attempts to capture this camp in 2023, this third attempt finally resulted in its successful seizure. The capture of this camp represents a significant victory for the revolutionary forces in their ongoing campaign to control the Thai-Myanmar border region.
The Karen National Union has been systematically capturing military council camps along the Thai-Myanmar border. From March to June, they have successfully taken control of numerous strategic positions including Pu Lu Tu, Khlay Day, Thaw Kho Bi Khee, Maw Pa Thur, Ta Lay, May La, Black Do, Maw Khee, Bogyoke Aung San Hill, Ka Nay Lay, Shwe Aye Myaing, Thay Baw Boe, and now Htee Ka Play camps. Currently, only three military council camps remain under junta control in the area: U Ka Rit Hta, Waw Lay strategic hill, and Ti Thay Lay camps. The KNLA has indicated that operations to capture these remaining positions are already in progress, with the U Ka Rit Hta camp currently under siege by KNLA and PDF joint forces.
