Two soldiers from the military council forces were killed in an attack that occurred in Chaung-U Township, Sagaing Region, on the evening of June 21. The incident took place when the People’s Defense Force conducted a mine attack against military council troops who were leaving the General Administration Department office in Chaung-U town. According to local sources, the military column, consisting of approximately thirty soldiers, had emerged from the office to conduct patrol operations in the town when they were attacked.
The attack occurred near the Sitaungpyi Monastery in Chaung-U town at around 5:45 PM. According to a responsible official from the BLDF Anya Mine Division, which carried out the attack, two military council soldiers were killed instantly in the operation, and there were additional casualties. The revolutionary forces were able to withdraw successfully from the area without suffering any casualties. The official further stated that while the military council forces responded with retaliatory fire, the exact number of additional casualties could not be confirmed due to nightfall.
The current situation in Chaung-U Township shows that People’s Defense Forces maintain control over most of the rural areas, while the military council forces are largely confined to the urban areas. The military council troops are primarily concentrated in the town proper, relying on their stationed forces for security. This attack demonstrates the ongoing resistance activities against the military council in the region, where revolutionary forces continue to challenge the military’s control despite the council’s attempts to maintain authority through force.
