According to a statement from the Mon Liberation Army and revolutionary sources, more than 30 military council soldiers were killed in the battle on the Kawkareik-Kyondoe road in Karen State, with both the battalion commander and deputy battalion commander sustaining severe injuries. Additionally, a large cache of weapons and ammunition was seized. The clash occurred on June 19 when revolutionary forces encountered military columns from Division 44 and Division 55 of the military council, who were advancing through Kyondoe town to reinforce Operation Aung Zeya. The battle lasted over seven hours.
The injured battalion commander and deputy commander (Lieutenant Colonel) were transferred from Battalion 545 in Kyondoe to Taunggalay Hospital in Hpa-an for treatment, while other injured soldiers are receiving medical care within Battalion 545. During the battle, revolutionary forces captured significant military equipment including MA-1 and MA-2 rifles, RPG launchers, RPG bombs and ammunition, 60mm heavy weapons, various types of ammunition magazines, bullets, bulletproof helmets, and other military supplies. Revolutionary sources confirmed that the military council suffered heavy casualties, with more than 40 soldiers killed in recent battles in the area.
On June 21 at 10:00 AM, revolutionary joint forces launched artillery attacks on four locations in Kyondoe town, which were met with return fire from military council forces. Additionally, military vehicles carrying ammunition were observed moving from Hpa-an through Thamanya and Kawdoe areas toward Kyondoe. The military convoy included two seven-ton trucks loaded with military rations and ammunition. The operation involves multiple allied forces, with the Karen National Liberation Army taking the lead, supported by the Mon National Liberation Army, People’s Defense Forces, and other revolutionary groups.
Currently, revolutionary forces have surrounded Kyondoe town and are urging civilians to leave the city and seek refuge with revolutionary forces in liberated areas. The revolutionary forces have emphasized their commitment to protecting civilians and have called on residents to join the people’s resistance against the military council. This operation represents a significant coordinated effort by various ethnic armed organizations and resistance forces to challenge the military council’s control in the region.
