Following the armed conflict in Lashio Township, the Kokang Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA) and the Shan State Progress Party (SSPP) have reached an agreement through negotiations to resolve their disputes, according to an official announcement from the Kokang side. The meeting between the two forces took place on June 17 at Thanlwin village in Special Region 1 Seinni District of the Kokang area, with representatives from the United Wa State Army (UWSA) attending as witnesses. The meeting was attended by high-ranking officials from the MNDAA and a delegation led by Lieutenant General Nai Pa, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of SSPP/SSA.
During the meeting, both sides engaged in in-depth discussions about immediate matters of mutual interest and agreed to resolve their differences and disagreements peacefully, following the principle of ‘making big issues small and small issues disappear.’ The MNDAA Deputy Military Chief Mr. Peng De Jun stated that they have no desire for conflict with any ethnic armed organization, expressing their wish to maintain friendly relations with all ethnic armed groups in Myanmar. He emphasized that the MNDAA has never had and will never have any intention to oppress other ethnic revolutionary armed organizations.
The two forces agreed to establish a high-level communication and coordination mechanism, immediately designating communication officers for their respective working groups. The meeting was conducted in a practical and transparent environment, demonstrating positive efforts through dialogue to control disputes and minimize conflict between both sides. Previously, on June 1, fighting had broken out near Narlein village in Lashio Township, resulting in eight MNDAA members being killed and others wounded. Subsequent clashes also occurred in Hannar village. Both MNDAA and SSPP are members of the Federal Political Negotiation and Consultative Committee (FPNCC), commonly known as the Northern Alliance-7, which includes other groups such as the KIA, AA, UWSA, NDAA, and TNLA.
