The National Unity Government (NUG) Interim President Duwa Lashi La and Prime Minister Mahn Win Khaing Than have expressed their belief that public leader Aung San Suu Kyi remains aligned with the people’s wishes and stands in solidarity with the Spring Revolution. They made these statements during commemorative speeches marking Aung San Suu Kyi’s 80th birthday. Currently, Aung San Suu Kyi remains in detention due to the military council’s unjust imprisonment, marking her 80th birthday while in confinement.
Interim President Duwa Lashi La emphasized that Aung San Suu Kyi has made numerous sacrifices for the country and its people, noting that despite her advancing age, her commitment to serving the nation and its people has never wavered. He also pledged that the NUG would not undertake any actions that contradict the will of the people. The President highlighted how Aung San Suu Kyi is enduring some of the most challenging years of her life in detention, while the country and its people face unprecedented hardships and violence.
Prime Minister Mahn Win Khaing Than affirmed his strong belief that Aung San Suu Kyi has consistently stood with the people throughout her political journey and continues to stand in unity with the current Spring Revolution. People across the country are commemorating Aung San Suu Kyi’s 80th birthday in various ways, though celebrations in major urban areas are being conducted cautiously due to strict security measures imposed by the military council. Reports from citizens in Yangon and other regions indicate that they are finding ways to mark the occasion while being mindful of the security situation.
