On June 14, the No Retreat Revolutionary Strike Column in the northern part of Yinmabin Township, Sagaing Region, conducted a public protest march to mark the upcoming 80th birthday of State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi. The protest march included local civilians, youth, and activists who demonstrated their opposition to the military dictatorship system. The participants marched through the township expressing their solidarity with the democratic movement.
The protesters demanded the immediate release of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and all political prisoners who remain in detention. They also prayed for the complete elimination of the military dictatorship system and the emergence of a federal democratic system. The strike column peacefully marched through various villages in the township, joining with local people in unified protest against the military regime. The demonstration highlighted the ongoing public resistance against military rule and showed continued support for democratic leadership.
Daw Aung San Suu Kyi has been detained since the military coup on February 1, 2021, and remains imprisoned in Naypyidaw Prison. Along with her, numerous leaders from the National League for Democracy party, activists, and political figures continue to be held in detention. This protest march demonstrated the people’s unwavering loyalty and support for their detained leaders and their commitment to the restoration of democracy in Myanmar. The peaceful demonstration also served as a reminder that the public’s desire for democratic governance and rejection of military rule remains strong, even as the country continues to face significant political challenges.
