Providing details about the defection, Information Officer Ko Min Nyan explained that Police Corporal Kyaw Min Han had previous personal connections with officials from Company 2, which facilitated his defection. The process involved approximately two months of preparation before he could successfully defect with the weapon. Currently, Police Corporal Kyaw Min Han is being properly detained for questioning and verification, while also being connected with public support networks that have monthly support plans in place. The battalion has received approximately three police personnel defectors who brought weapons with them to date.
According to Battalion 30 ADPRA of Yinmabin District, defectors who bring weapons will be rewarded with amounts ranging from 3 million to 5 million kyats, depending on the type of weapon surrendered. The battalion welcomes those who wish to switch sides from the military council to the public’s side. However, they emphasized that those who surrender during combat operations will be treated as prisoners of war. The Information Officer Ko Min Nyan further stated that while they continue to welcome defectors from the military council’s forces, they maintain strict protocols regarding the handling of those who surrender during active combat situations.
