The Ma Ba Tha circle has confirmed that military lobbyist Zaw Bhone Hein, who resides in Pyin Oo Lwin, has been charged under Section 505(a) of the Penal Code for sedition and Section 66(d) of the Telecommunications Law. This development comes after his arrest by military forces on June 2 at approximately 1 PM, with formal charges being filed on June 12.
According to a member of Ma Ba Tha, the case was opened by the Central Regional Military Command. The sedition charge stems from allegations of insulting senior military officials, while the telecommunications law violation was filed in Yangon. While there are currently no charges under the Counter-Terrorism Law, certain groups are reportedly pushing for additional charges under this legislation. The case highlights the ongoing tension between military supporters and those perceived as critics of the regime.
Zaw Bhone Hein has been transferred to Mandalay’s Obo Prison and is scheduled to appear in court on June 26. Prior to these charges, he was already facing legal action under Section 66(d) of the Telecommunications Law, filed by military supporter Daw Moe Moe Khaing at the Dagon Myothit (South) Township Police Station in Yangon Region on May 5. This earlier case was related to alleged insults directed at military council leader Min Aung Hlaing and other high-ranking military officials.
