Approximately 30 soldiers from the military council’s Nga Hlan Ni camp in Dawei District along the Thai-Myanmar border in Tanintharyi Region have abandoned their post and fled to Thailand, according to confirmation from the People’s Defense Force (PDF) which operates in coordination with the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA). The incident occurred on June 12, leaving the camp completely deserted of military personnel. However, due to the potential presence of landmines in the surrounding area, resistance forces have not yet been able to conduct clearing operations in the territory.
According to a PDF source, KNLA leadership has confirmed that all soldiers have fled the camp. They explained that even if fighting were to break out, the military council would be unable to send reinforcements, and the remaining forces would not have been able to maintain a defensive position. The leaders indicated that since the soldiers took time to evacuate, there is a high probability of landmines being planted, so they are not rushing to capture the camp or clear the area. It was noted that the KNLA and PDF forces currently maintain control along the Thai-Myanmar border throughout the Dawei District.
The abandonment of Nga Hlan Ni camp follows the successful capture of Htee Khee and Bawdi border posts by revolutionary forces in the Dawei District along the Thai-Myanmar border. Additionally, fighting broke out between the Ramanya Mon Army (RMA) and military council forces along the Mawlamyine-Thanbyuzayat road in Mon State at 5 AM on June 11, according to a statement from the RMA. The clash occurred when the RMA, based in Mudon Township, intercepted a military council convoy conducting road security operations. The engagement resulted in significant casualties for the military council forces, while the RMA suffered the loss of one deputy officer. The military convoy reportedly included approximately 30 soldiers, and the battle lasted about one hour, with the RMA maintaining tactical advantage throughout the engagement.
