The military council-appointed administrator of Bodhi Kon village in eastern Kyopinkaut Township, Bago Region, who had been forcibly recruiting young people for military service and extorting money from families, was killed in an attack by revolutionary forces. The incident occurred on the evening of June 8, during which weapons were also seized. The administrator, Maung Nyein, was a former military serviceman and leader of the Pyu Saw Htee group who had been oppressing local civilians.
The attack took place while Maung Nyein was sowing paddy in a field, and two hand grenades were seized from him. Since 2022, Maung Nyein had been forcibly recruiting local youth for military service and demanding ransoms from the families of those arrested. He typically demanded between 15 and 20 million kyats per person, plus an additional 4 million kyats as his personal fee. These extortion activities were carried out repeatedly over an extended period.
The operation was conducted by the BTZM GBK PDF, a revolutionary force based in the Bago Yoma region. According to Commander Ko Teza Min, Maung Nyein had committed numerous crimes against local civilians and had been repeatedly extorting money from them. He was also actively involved in recruitment activities for the military council. Local residents have now been freed from his oppression. The attack represents a significant blow to the military council’s administrative structure in the area and their forced recruitment efforts.
